Brandi Buchman

I am a writer who strives to inform and enthrall, not distract or mislead.

I have covered a number of high-profile criminal cases and trials including the seditious conspiracy trials of the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys gavel-to-gavel; the criminal fraud trial of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, and the Ahmaud Arbery shooting trial. I have reported from the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. My coverage has spanned domestic and international terrorism, white-collar crime and hate crime, espionage cases, and others including those involving interference in U.S. foreign policy or elections.

I have reported from the halls of Congress and covered both impeachments of former President Donald Trump and the preceding congressional inquiries. I covered congressional hearings at length for several House and Senate committees like the Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Intelligence committees.

I hit campaign trails in 2016 and 2020 and covered presidential and vice presidential debates or rallies for Republican and Democratic candidates alike.

I have covered protests, riots, and various episodes of civil unrest. After the police killing of George Floyd sparked nationwide protests in 2020, I conducted on-the-street interviews in D.C., wrote daily feature-length reports, and compiled an extensive photo diary documenting the protests.

On Jan. 6, 2021, I was on the ground before the rioting kicked off, and since then, I have reported extensively on Jan. 6 and the aftermath of the investigation led by the Justice Department and Congress.

When my journalism career began, I started out managing the classifieds section of a local newspaper in New York, The Southampton Press. I went on to cover local news, wrote a column for the Town of Westhampton Beach, compiled community calendars, and wrote weekly spotlight features highlighting local artists or businesses. I never imagined then that I would end up credentialed to cover the White House nor did I imagine I would one day cover some of the most critical moments in modern American history.

When not reporting, I find solace in my garden, cooking good meals for close friends, or by walking through D.C. many’s lovely parks and museums.
